Sewing classes

Sewing is becoming a lost art in this generation, but I think that it is more than just a hobby!  Kids who know how to sew learn a love of creating, and gain a skill that will help them patch and adapt their own clothes.  They also learn problem solving skills, because I always say that half of sewing is planning.

During class time, we will spend the first half an hour or so learning about fabric and sewing techniques.  The rest of the class time will be devoted to a small project that uses their new skills.  I will try to make sure that all projects are completed by the end of class, because nothing is more frustrating than a pile of half finished projects!

Classes are held Monday through Friday, one week per session.  Each class will run from 10 am until noon each day.  Tuition is $75 a week, with $10 off each additional class per family, whether for the same student or siblings.

Also, I am happy to offer a separate version of the class for homeschooling children.  Instead of a week long, intensive course, we will have a one hour class time once a week where we learn new topics as well as introduce new projects to be worked on during class and at home between classes.  Two sessions will be offered, from September to Christmas break and then again from January to April, for 14 classes per session.  Tuition is $120 per session.

All classes are open to ages 6 to 14.  I recommend that a mother or older “helper” attend class with the younger ones so that they can get more individual attention, but do not require it.  Classes are capped at 5 students.

All students will need:
*A sewing machine to bring.  I will have my machine available if theirs needs service, but in general, I want the kids to learn how to use the machine they will have access to after the class is over.
*A basic sewing kit.  They will need fabric scissors, pins, a measuring tape, and a seam ripper.
*Fabric and thread for the projects.  I will let you know how much is needed once I design the projects, which will be based on the student’s interests.  If you do not have the budget for the fabric, let me know and I can tell you my tricks for cheap fabric.
